The National Western Energy District

In April 2022, CenTrio, with its partners Aecom and Saunders Construction, successfully completed and commissioned the largest wastewater heat recovery system in North America. This marked the culmination of a two-year iterative process conducted throughout the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. The use of sewer heat recovery is a breakthrough technology at this scale, covering seven major buildings, and is the first of its kind in the US. In addition to multiple deadlines for the design, finance, and construction of the system, the project’s delivery phase was significantly affected by the pandemic, but was completed on time and in tandem with other ongoing construction projects on site.

To ensure the project was delivered in harmony with these other projects, the team worked together to speed up commissioning of the project, working collaboratively from the pre-development agreement phase to turnover, to ensure that substantial completion was achieved ahead of schedule.
